Join Golden Gavel Advanced Toastmasters for an Improv. evening

1 December 2009

Wendywood Sports Club 77 Darwin Road, Wendywood

The theme is built around improvisation. Imagine the TV show, 'Whose Line Is It Anyway' - that's what it will be like.
It'll be table topics on steroids. So, bring a great attitude and switch on your brain because this is going to be high-pressure table topics. We can't wait.

Your players

Vittorio Leonardi - Master of Ceremonies

With a shape that he describes as “genetically Italian”, and a mop of curly hair that makes him look like a refugee from a Heavy Metal group, Vittorio Leonardi didn’t always fit in to the sleepy small-town vibe of Welkom. For the past seven years on comedy stages from Polokwane to Cape Town, however, he shines like a star.
This young media-junkie has a way of taking any movie or TV show, and showing it to us through his own quirky lens lending his own style of observational comedy to his delivery. The results are often as thought-provoking as they are hilarious, and the big guy’s sleepy charm makes him come across as a gleeful little boy.
Tackling a wide variety of subjects ranging from relationships and the battle of the sexes to politics and the existence of aliens, he is a regular on the Comedy Express, Nomad P.R. and Whacked Management Circuits.
Vittorio has also appeared in the Parker Express Video and Comedy Showcase. He has also opened for some of South Africa's top comedians including Barry Hilton.

Hannes Br
ümmer

Hannes Brümmer was born deep in the heart of the West Rand and accordingly suffered a suburban youth. He often blames his opinions on this fact. His comedic style is highly energetic and physical and he is willing to injure himself for a cheap laugh. He is at times self-depreciating but ultimately optimistic. His tongue is always firmly in cheek as he observes the world we live in. He ventured into the world of entertainment in 2001 when he started to apply the knowledge gained from a BA(Drama) degree professionally. Television appearances include Een Skoenlapper Amalia and Villa Rosa. On stage highlights have been Full Circle, four Afrikaans farces under the direction of Pierre van Pletzen and Paul Slabolepszy’s Mooi street moves. Hannes was also co-responsible for Blikskottel (kykNET) and SABC’s Kompleks, as writer and actor. Since 2005, Hannes has been a member of Joe Parker's Improv Express and currently the Starship Improvise. He has also ventured into the world of stand-up comedy, becoming a regular face in Gauteng comedy venues. He is also one of Die Flying Dutchmen, an Afrikaans Comedy duo with Melt Sieberhagen. In 2008 and 2009 he was a finalist in the Jozi Comedy Showdown.

Warren Robertson

Warren Robertson is not a stereotypical comedian. An unrepentant individualist comic who panders to no one but his crowd, he proves time and again that there are no social barriers to his comedy as his thoughts switch from history, to pop culture, politics and his seemingly bizarre sex life. His fearless, dark and intelligent material has been hailed both locally in his home country of South Africa and in the United Kingdom where he gained rapid acceptance, establishing himself on the most competitive circuit in the world while winning numerous comedy competitions and accolades along the way.* In his spare time Warren likes to burn the eyes out of the celebrity pictures in magazines and write love poetry to prisoners. Like Helen Keller once said, "The most beautiful things in life can not be seen or heard" but then how the hell would she know.

We had a brilliant meeting last night with more than 50 people attending. It appears that Golden Gavel has a winning recipe with bringing in outside experts to speak on their subjects of expertise.

Last night we had branding expert, Donna Rachelson share some of her personal branding

You'll get the gist of what she said on this You tube clip. strategies. It certainly made us think.

And, our very own Erich Viedge gave us a master class lesson on using Power Point. It was brilliant. You can check out the presentation on Slideshare.
